Jean Elin Murphy

Jean Elin Murphy, age 97, of Akron, Ohio, stepped onto the shores of Heaven on June 13, 2023 at her home with her family by her side.

She was born on February 6, 1926 in Akron, the daughter of the late Stanley and Leota (nee Clutter) Davis.

Jean was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother. She was 'the Matriarch" of the family, and rallied around her children. If you asked Jean anything about an elephant, she could tell you everything about them and their duties to their family, keeping a family together, as did she.

She loved her sweets and snacks, corn on the cob and BLTs, but mainly she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Survivors include her children, Paula Hayes and James Murphy; her grandchildren, Jessica (DJ) Grable and Rebekah Hayes; and her great-grandchildren, Anthony, Connor and Jayden Grable and Eliza Hauser; and her grand-dogs, Baxter and Tito.

Other than her parents, Jean was preceded in death by the first love of her life, her husband, William P. Murphy, whom she married on June 30, 1951, he preceded her in death on October 24, 1979; the second love of her life, James L. Dineen Jr.; one brother, S. Paul Davis and one sister, Donna L. Johnson Osborne.

Funeral services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44305 on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 12:30 PM, where Pastor Steve Bucy will celebrate Jean's life.

Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM.

Jean will be buried at 2:00 PM at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron, Ohio, beside her husband, William.

The family wishes to thank, Monica RN from Traditions Hospice and Tressa for their kindness, love and support that they gave to our mom, Jean.
