Jean Eloise Sayre

Jean Eloise Sayre was born November 28, 1926 in Beckley WV to Lance Sayre and Mittie Stewart Sayre. She died Saturday, January 28, 2023. She was a resident of Rockynol, an extended care facility, since June 2020. Her parents, 3 siblings, and a nephew preceded her in death.
She followed her mother, moving to Akron in 1950, working first as a telephone operator but hoping to become a registered nurse. Her dream was realized. She was a proud graduate of the Akron City Hospital Idabelle Firestone School of Nursing, class of 1961. She spent the next 33 years as a psychiatric nurse working primarily at Akron City Hospital and the Brecksville VA Hospital.
Jean lived her life on her own terms. She was active in the ACH School of Nursing Alumni Association and volunteered for the Red Cross after retirement. She would want it mentioned that one of her great joys was her pet rabbit, Sammy. She golfed in her earlier years, traveled as near and far as she could, and read anything she could get her hands on but history was a mainstay.
Jean is survived by a niece, Carolyn Casto of SC and a nephew, Steve Shinn of WV, six great nieces, and one great nephew and a favorite great -great nephew, Matthew Wolfe.
There will be no local services. Interment will be in Otterbein Cemetery, Evans, WV.
