Jeanette I. Harris

Jeanette I. Harris, 88, of Lakemore, went Home to be with the Lord on April 10, 2025. She was born in Gray, Pennsylvania on November 6, 1936 to the late Charles and Ethel Loughry. As a child, Jeanette moved to Akron with her family. Eventually they returned to Boswell, Pennsylvania but as a young woman, Jeanette decided to return to Akron to live with her sister. Through a friend, she was introduced to Kenneth Harris Sr. and they fell in love and married on May 2, 1959. Their family grew to include four children and they were happily married for 61 years until Ken's death in 2020.

She was a devoted homemaker while her children were young and later found work at Alphabet Inc. where she made many good friends. Her family will always remember her wonderful cooking and baking as well as her legendary Christmas Cookie platters. Every year, she would can countless jars of produce and she passed those skills on to her children. Every birthday and holiday included a unique cake or dessert lovingly made by Jeanette.

Jeanette was a longtime member of Canton Road Baptist under the late Dr. John L. Francis. In 2000, the congregation merged with Community Baptist Temple under Pastor Mark O'Donnell. She was a faithful member of both churches and was a dedicated fixture in the nursery. Her church family was so important to her.

Her greatest love was family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her so much joy and they loved the sound of her laughter. She also had a soft spot for her beloved cat, Lily.

In addition to her parents and her husband Ken, Jeanette was preceded in death by her sisters, Maxine and Wilda; and brother, Elmer.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Kenny (Patti), Cindi (Dean) Chinrock, Keith (Meshelle), and Julie (Tony) Barbuto; grandchildren, Ken (Christine), Kara (Tom), Kevin (Valerie), Ashley, Ryan (Sean), Savannah, Shelby (Cody), Madison, Molly, Alyssa, Nicolas, and Brady; great-grandchildren, Zoe, Andrew, Parker, Aiden, Maverick, and Banks; sister, Linda (Bob) Kennell; and brother, John Loughry; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Family and friends are invited to visit Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Community Baptist Temple, 1435 Kelly Ave, Akron. The funeral service will immediately follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Mark O'Donnell officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jeanette's name to Community Baptist Temple.
