Jeffrey B. Thomas

Jeffrey B. Thomas, 67, of Brimfield, died peacefully at home after a 2 1/2 year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) on December 31, 2019 with his wife Marie by his side. Jeff never complained, even after losing his speech and the ability to swallow and breathe on his own. If you asked him how he was doing, you got a "thumbs up".
He was born in Akron to Garnet and Estill Thomas on December 12, 1952. He worked for Goodyear Tire for 5 years before joining the Akron Fire Department where he served 33 years until his retirement. He also worked part-time at Market Day as a driver for 17 years.
Jeff was a one of a kind wheeler dealer. He loved old cars, motorcycles, boats, and going to Carlisle, PA and Hershey, PA car shows for 35 plus years.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 23 years, Marie. He was preceded in death by his father, Estill J. Thomas. He is also survived by his dear mother, Garnet Thomas; sister, Alice (Mike) Dennis; and brother, Jim Thomas. Jeff was a wonderful uncle to Allison (Clayton) Johnson and Kelsey Dennis. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Kathleen (James) Dilworth; nieces, Tracy Bodnar, Michelle Ferguson (Ron); and nephew, Chris (Francheska) Dilworth. Jeff had many dear friends who called and visited regularly: David Stefan, Kenny Fuller, Neil Sackett and so many more. Special thanks to Jack (Sue) Didado, Jim Thompson, Mark (Ann) Stewart, and Alice and Mike Dennis who all made it possible for us to keep Jeff in the home he built. Thanks to Dr. Sawlani, Nurse Kim, Nurse Deann, Brandon (P.T.) from University Hospitals, Ashley (N.P.) from Western Reserve Palliative care for the excellent care given to Jeff. Special thanks to ALS Northern Ohio Chapter for all their support and guidance.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2020 from 3-7 p.m. with a Last Alarm Service at 6:45 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Butch Pursley officiating.
