Jerry D. Ratliff, 64, of Mogadore, passed unexpectedly to go home with the Lord on December 16, 2018. He was born in Pikeville, Kentucky on August 5, 1954 to Lundy and Lorraine Ratliff, Belcher.
He graduated with honors from Kent State University with a degree in metallurgical engineering. He owned Hark Laboratories in Barberton, Ohio, where he worked as a metallurgist engineer.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, bowling, and music. Jerry was a talented musician playing trombone and baritone in the Pikeville High School band under the direction of C.J. Birch. He was well known for being an accomplished diver and swimming, serving as life guard at the Pikeville Swimming Pool on South Mayo Trail. He was voted "Most Likely to Succeed" in high school, and was successful in that endeavor. He was also voted "Who's Who" in the National Metallurgical Society, in addition to many other honors in his field. Jerry was very well liked and had many friends throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Teresa Ramsey Ratliff; and mother, Lorraine Ratliff Belcher.
Jerry is lovingly survived by his wife, Lynn Ratliff; twin brother, Perry (Janet) Ratliff; sister, Marsha Rosado; father, Lundy Ratliff; step-children, Chad (Ronetta) Osborne, and Kim (Todd) Harris; grandchildren, Hannah Harris, Grayson Harris, Ashton Obsborne, Ronna Bentley, and Lindsay Gibson; special niece, Melissa Jo; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Friends and family are welcome to Newcomer 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, to visit on Tuesday December 18, 2018 from 5pm until 6pm. A memorial service will take place at 6pm.
