Jessie Thomas Staggers, "Tom", age 89 of Akron, Ohio, died on March 28, 2018 at 8:00 PM at Hospice Care Center in Copley.
He was born on November 26, 1928 in Akron, the son of the late Henry Earl and Lulu (nee Bowman) Staggers.
Tom was an honorably discharged US Army veteran of the Korean War as a corporal, then he transferred to the Army Reserves, serving a total of 15 years combined service.
Jessie worked at Central News Company here in Akron for 40 years as a supervisor and also High Street Christian Church as a maintenance worker for 5 years. He and his wife also cooked for many, many years at the High Street Christian Church. Currently he has been attending Mogadore Baptist Church.
Tom was very proud of owning and operating his own business, Retriever Properties in Mogadore.
Other than his parents, Jessie was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, the former Poldina M. Srba, on May 14, 2007, they were united in marriage on September 21, 1950; his granddaughter, Randi Marie Bailey; his loyal companion and man's best friend, Journey; and his brother, Earl William "Hank" Staggers.
Survivors include his daughter and "son"-in-law, Kathy and Bruce Bailey; his great-granddaughter, Alyssa Marie Graham; his loyal companion and man's best friend, Jarmo; and his sisters also survive, Ethel Freeman and Margie Howard; and many other family and friends.
Family and friends will be received at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM.
Military graveside services will take place at Hillside Memorial Park Chapel on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the family for his great-granddaughter's education.
