Jimmie Wayne Whitehead, 67, of Akron, passed away on March 26, 2022. Jimmie was born in Plant City, Florida on January 28, 1955 to the late Floyd and Alta Whitehead. In addition to his parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by his siblings, Bill, Fred, Lewis, Nell, and Claudine.
Jimmie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Christine with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in June; sons, Rob (Melanie) Whitehead and Shawn (Amanda) Whitehead; grandchildren, Travis (Kaila), Dakota (Meghan), Justin (Morgan), Tyler (Samantha), Hunter, Madison (Derek), McKenna, and Michael; great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Jameson, Noah, Madelyn, Liam, and one on the way; brother, Frank Whitehead; sister, Geraldine Wise; sister-in-law, Cindy (Loren) Harter; many nieces, nephews, and relatives. Jimmie also leaves many good friends, including lifelong friends, Sherry and Jim Behringer.
Jimmie was an incredibly hard worker. He started his career as a brick and block mason at the age of sixteen. He also had a knack for carpentry and landscaping. He loved building things in his workshop and mowing his lawn. Jimmie also enjoyed attending car and tractor shows. His prized possessions were his 1970 SS Chevelle and 1970 Oliver tractor. Some of his fondest memories were of family trips to Pigeon Forge and the Smoky Mountains.
Family and friends may visit on Monday, April 4, 2022 from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with visitation for one hour prior, Pastor John Knepper officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
