Joan R Sarvis ("Me-Maw")
Joan Sarvis, 78, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 10, 2008 surrounded by her loving family. Born April 20, 1930 in Cameron, West Virginia, Mom was a graduate of West Virginia University and taught home economics in Cadiz, Ohio until she met "My Bill" in 1954 and eloped 3 months later. They celebrated 51 years of marriage before Dad's passing in 2006.
Mom was a loving, sweet, gentle, dedicated, selfless and classy woman who adored her family and especially her four granddaughters. Her ability to quiet and gain the cooperation of any child earned her the nickname "child whisperer".
She was a dedicated member of Oak Hill Presbyterian Church and she cherished her friendships there. Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill, her parents Samuel and Hialda Hinerman and her brother Donald Hinerman. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Randy (Susan) Sarvis, Sherry Sarvis, Karen (Brian) Wagster and her four beautiful granddaughters, Lauren, Kimberly and Rachel Sarvis and "Sweet Jenna Girl" Wagster, sister Sue (Nile) Williams, sisters-in-law Norita Hinerman, Kathryn (Cecil) Stewart, brothers-in-law Robert (Dot) Sarvis, Jim (Sally) Sarvis, cousins Eileen Palmer, Dodie (Jim) Marple and many other family members and friends.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, October 14 from 4-7 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Additional visitation will be at 10 am and the Funeral Services will be at 11am Wednesday at Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, 2406 Ardwell Ave, with Pastor Brian Nutt officiating.
