Joan R. Shaner

Joan R. Shaner, 83, passed away on October 1, 2018. She was born in Armstrong Co, PA to the later Truman and Ruth Shaffer. Joan retired from Barberton Citizen's Hospital where she worked as a CRNA for many years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband in their RV and family gatherings, especially hosting Thanksgiving dinner in her home for over 50 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Jim and Richard. Joan is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, David; sons, Lake (Valerie) and Ladd (Ann) Shaner; grandchildren, Jason (Janelle), Ryan (Frances), Chad (Maggie), Ashton, Aubrey and Gavin Shaner; and Adam (Genevieve) and Benjamin McGavin; great-grandchildren, Everett and Addelyn; and one brother, Leon Shaffer.

Family will receive friends on Friday October 5, 2018 from 12-1pm with the memorial service immediately following at Newcomer Funeral Home 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, Oh 44305. In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to hug your loved ones.
