Joanne V. Berens (Petrekovich), 76, died April 24, 2009 at her home on Catawba Island after a long illness. Born in Massillon, OH to Elmer and Esther Bergener. Preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Esther Bergener, with whom she shared so many of her childhood memories; husband, Karl Berens; special companion of many years, Frank Petrekovich; and brother, Otto Elmer Bergener. Joanne is survived by her children, David Weisgarber (Mary) of Rootstown, Victor Weisgarber (Rita) of Texas, Jeff Weisgarber (Janette) of Beach City, Bambi Lynn Covert (Jim) of Brimfield and Connie Thomas (John) of Barberton; daughter-in-law, Sadie Weisgarber of Barberton; grandchildren, Rachel Harnar (Neil), Sarah Adkins (Brian), Melanie Plancsak (Mike), Nikkie Weisgarber, Kelsey Weisgarber, Erika Bajcar (Justin), Angela Swaino (Greg), Michael Thomas, and Barry Weisgarber; great-grandchildren, Justin, Anthony and Joelle Bajcar, Haley and Lindsey Swaino, Savannah and Christian Adkins, Henry Harnar, Mikell Thomas, Marquest Weisgarber, Madison Plancsak, and Cody and Jerimiah Weisgarber; sisters, Bonnie Sprankle (Jack) and Linda Dupree (Bob); and brother Rob Bergener. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where services will follow immediately at 11 a.m. with Rev. Max McKenna officiating. Interment will take place Wednesday at Catawba Island Cemetery at 1 p.m. Joanne's family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Akron in helping with the arrangements of transporting Joanne back to her home on Catawba Island. Also, a very special thank you to Stein Hospice of Port Clinton, Ohio.
