John Alexoff, 92, of Akron, passed away December 13, 2016. Born in Youngstown and raised in Massillon, John proudly served in WWII as an Army veteran receiving recognition for his expert marksmanship. John was an avid pinochle and poker player always betting on that ace in the hole. In his youth he played semi-pro football. John was equally proud of the fact that he paid for his parents' home as he was for scoring his first and only touchdown as "Joe Alexoff." But he was more proud of his 4 grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Athanas and Vasala; siblings, Georgia "Florence" Arshinkoff, Mary Benton, Alexander Alexoff, and Raymond Alexoff. He is survived by his sons, John (Utauna) Alexoff, Richard (Teresa) Alexoff, Carl (Laura) Alexoff, and Raymond Alexoff; grandchildren, William and Jonathan Alexoff, Jessica (Jeff) Warren, and Claire Alexoff. He was also a loving grandfather to his extended family through Utauna (John); Jesse (Kim) Prather, Chuck (Tammy) Prather, Shawn Prather, and Jason (Bethany) Prather; great-grandchildren, Myranda, Taylor, Isaiah, Kameron, Leeahna, Shawna, Elaine, Tara, Brooke, Gage, Tyler, Jay and Qwenten; great-great-grandson, Xavier; and many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive guests Friday, December 23, 2016, from 3-4:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, followed by a Memorial Service beginning at 4:00 p.m.
