John Wayne Bechter passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.
John was a skilled chess player who competed in many tournaments. He enjoyed a good game of euchre, or any card game, and was interested in numismatics (coin collecting) and respected the detail and artwork on the coins. John also loved genealogy. He is the family historian and spent years researching and documenting family history.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Bechter and Velva Summers (Nicholson), brother James and many other loved ones. John is survived by his dearly devoted siblings, Charles (Betty), Ruth Sisson and Hazel (Louie) Kroah, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He will also be missed by many cousins and other relatives that he always enjoyed seeing.
John attended St. John's Elementary, Goodrich Jr. High and Garfield High Schools. He was a resident of Akron, Norton, Barberton, and for the last several years, Wooster. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War era and was stationed in Germany.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 1, 2016 from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron where funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM.
Interment will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio.
