John L. Boyd Sr.

John L. Boyd Sr., 84, passed away June 8, 2022. He was born on October 11, 1937 the son of the late Earl and Gladys Boyd of Swords Creek, VA. John retired after 36 years of dedicated service from Goodyear. His greatest love was for his family. He always enjoyed camping at Wills Creek where there would be plenty of fishing, laughing and sharing stories. John enjoyed deer hunting with family and friends. Many knew him for his taxidermy skills and exquisite woodworking skills. He was also known for his vegetable garden and voted "Most Beautiful Yard" by the Akron Beacon Journal for his beautiful flower garden. John had many adventures traveling both with his beloved wife, Elsie and friends through the years. John will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 56 years, Elsie Boyd; son John L. Boyd Jr.; daughter Christine Friend; daughter-in-law Karen Boyd; and siblings Katie, Benjamin and Otto.
John is survived by his loving family, children, Carmella (David Gillespie) Chapman, Joseph Earl Boyd, Cathie (James) Edwards and Cindy (Bill) Strickland; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N. Canton Rd., Akron) where services will be held at 11:00 AM. with Pastor Gary Smith officiating.
Interment will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
