John F. Ghrist, Sr.
John F. Ghrist, Sr., 79, of Akron, passed away at his residence on March 9, 2006. He was born January 6, 1927 in Newell, Pennsylvania to the late John & Anna Ghrist. He later served in the U.S. Army during WWII. John worked for many years at Sears & Roebuck as a salesman, and was honored as the top salesman in the country many times. In his free time, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting, sports - especially football and baseball, woodworking, housework and cooking. He was a member of the American Legion. John had fought and beaten cancer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Frederick Ghrist, Jr.; seven sisters and one brother. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Louise (Behringer) Ghrist; daughter, Jill (David) Felix; sons, Randy, Lawrence (Sonya), Ricky (Shelly), Guy (Randy) and Christopher; grandchildren, Mandy, Jonathan, Sara, Jonathan, Christopher, Bradley, Eric, Haley, Kaitlin, Caleb and Ricky. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. where funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.NewcomerFamily.com
