John I. Raber

John I. Raber, 89, was born in Greentown, OH on September 24, 1922 to John Henry and Sylvia. He smiled his way into heaven on May 22, 2012.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Bernice.

John is survived by children, Rev. Dennis (Ruth) Metzger, Cathie (Doug) Fink, Tami (Jeff) Custer, John I. Raber II; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

John was a number 1 Mogadore football fan and avid gardener. He loved his raspberries, playing cards and being with family. He was a proud Navy veteran, serving his country in WWII, as a bombardier on a PB4Y2. His contagious positive outlook on life touched many.

Calling hours for John and Bernie will be on Wednesday, May 23, from 5-8 PM and Thursday, May 24, from 11:30 – 12:30 at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will follow at 12:30 with Rev. Dennis Metzger officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
