John Edward Johnson, 76, passed away December 31, 2006 at the VA Medical Center in Erie, PA. John was born April 7, 1930 in New Martinsville, WV and moved to Akron in the 1940s and moved to Florida after retiring. He proudly served in the U.S. Army MP during the Korean Conflict. John was a Shriner and a member of the Yusef Khan Grotto. In his free time, he was an avid golfer. John was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Chloie Johnson and son, Timothy Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Pauline (nee McDaniel); children, Janet Stevenson, Jonathan (Rosie) Johnson, Pamela Tarbet, and Renita (John) Kiehl; brothers, Howard and Eugene Johnson; nine grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Funeral services will take place Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with visitation from 11-1, Rev. O. Homer Burket officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. Military honors will be provided by Mogadore VFW Post 8487. In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's name may be made to any veterans' organization.
