John W. "Jay" Johnson, 85, passed away September 24, 2023 after an extended illness. Born in Akron, Ohio to Dr. J. Walter and Louvern (Snider) Johnson, he was a lifelong area resident and a member of the 1956 graduating class of Buchtel High School. He also graduated from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA in 1963. Jay retired from Jeffco Metals where he worked as a metals trader. He enjoyed going to the beach, and playing golf.
In addition to his parents Jay was preceded in death by sister, Sally Anderson. He is survived by his children, Jay Johnson, II (Dawn), John Johnson, Jr. (Sheila), Marjorie (Kevin) Knoch; grandchildren, Stephanie Miller (Nick), Christopher Hodson, Russell Johnson (Kourtlyn), David Johnson, and Hannah Johnson; great grandchildren, Abigail, Nathaniel and Tabitha Miller, Emory, Rowan, and Collins Johnson.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a graveside service Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, 100 E. Waterloo Rd., Akron. Those who wish may make memorial donations in John's name the charity of their choice.
