John Karl
John Karl, 89 a much loved husband, father and grandfather, passed away unexpectedly on June 30 after several years of failing health.
The true measure of John's life is reflected in the way he provided and cared for his family; his pride in having served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, 5th Division, during World War II; the polka music he so enjoyed and his German heritage. He was an expert handyman around the house and there was no project that he could not handle. He had a great sense of humor, and he will be dearly missed.
John retired from the truck tire division at BF Goodrich in 1981 with 39 years of service. He was a member of Church of the Master, United Methodist and a lifelong resident of the Tallmadge area.
He was born on November 21, 1916, in the home of his parents, Charles Florian and Frances (Freiss) Karl. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Mary, who died as an infant, and Katherine Huber; and by brothers Anthony, Mike, and Frank.
John is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Helen "Mickey"; son Ronald John (Janet); two daughters, Betsy (Roger) Rorabaugh and Nancy Karl; four grandchildren, Kristi Stemler; Julie (Jeff) Falter; John Karl (Shelley) Rorabaugh; Brad Karl; and four great-grandchildren, Trenton Karl and Trevor Dean Rorabaugh; Lauren Elizabeth and Matthew Karl Falter. Sisters Irene Northrup, Frances Mitchell and Margie Smith also survive him, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Sunday, July 2, 2006 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, OH 44305 where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kenneth Moody-Arndt officiating. Interment will follow at Tallmadge Cemetery. John's legacy to his children and grandchildren are the many precious memories they will hold in their hearts forever.
