John Martin Montis, 65, of Akron, OH, passed away suddenly on October 29, 2017 at his home. He was born in Akron to the late Harlan and Loretha Montis. After graduating from Akron East High School, he joined the US Navy where he learned the electrical trade. Six years later, he was honorably discharged and returned home to work at Hoover, and later, Goodyear Rubber and Tire Company for 32 years. After retirement, John became busier than ever; volunteering with the Army-Navy Union and the Veterans Service Administration. John held several chairs within the Army-Navy, including National Commander, where he was honored to meet two sitting presidents, and was voted Mr. Army-Navy by his peers.
Through the years, John enjoyed playing baseball/softball. He was an avid bowler with multiple 300 games who later in life enjoyed being on a three-generation bowling team with his father and sons. John was always the life of the party; whether you enjoyed a drink or two with him, threw in a jukebox dollar, or heard him singing karaoke -- he always knew how to have a good time.
John was lucky enough to have two loves of his life: his high school sweetheart, Carol, with whom he was married to for 36 years and had four children with. After a few years, a romance blossomed between John and Rita through their mutual love of the Army-Navy Club. He was a dedicated family man, always providing for his family.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol; and his son, John Allen.
John is survived by his wife, Rita; children, Cindy (Steve) Beckler, Steven (Marilou) Montis, and James (Brittney) Montis; step-children, Christine (Chris) Dunbar, Amy Silver, and Tony (Jen) Stanko; his legacy will live on through his grandchildren, Tristan, Madison, Ronan, Grant, Peyton, and Caroline and 11 step-grandchildren; step-mother, Lois; sister, Suzanne (Ken) Perkins; step-sister, Jeano (Tony) Bittner; sister-in-law, Kathy (Lynn) Evans; brother-in-law, Michael (Sandy) Flynt; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
