John M. Moore, 88, went home to be with the Lord on August 7, 2018. He was born February 18, 1930 to late parents, Dewey and Mary Iris Moore. John was happily married 66 years to the love of his life, Mary. They enjoyed traveling the world together and wintering in the Florida Keys, where he loved to fish, golf and play tennis. John also liked snow skiing in the western U.S. He was passionate about flying and was an accomplished instrument-rated pilot. John and Mary were members of The Chapel for over 40 years. He honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
John's career as a civil engineer and surveyor with the firm, Swigart and Moore, first as a partner, and then as the owner, allowed him to work on many interesting projects including Blossom Music Center, the Richfield Coliseum and the LaDue Reservoir. John retired from his profession in the year 2000. John served on the Springfield Township Board of Zoning Appeals for 40 years.
John was a loving spouse, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; his children, Beth, Amy (Charlie), John (Karen); grandchildren, Suzy (Colin), Gregory (Lucy), Grace (Mark), Matt, John (Suzie), Rod (Ken), Anna, Rich; great-grandchildren, Isobel, Maple, Caedmon, Tallulah; siblings, Donald, Mary, Martha; and many long-time friends. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of John's life will be held at 3pm on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N.
