John O. Yerkey, 81, passed away at home on April 3, 2016 from multiple myeloma. He was born in Akron on September 7, 1934 to the late Fred and Hallie Yerkey. John proudly served in the US Army and retired from Teledyne Monarch Rubber Co. after 30 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles, and sister, Barbara Krisa. John is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Suzanne; son, Thomas (Karen) Yerkey of Hardinsburg, KY; daughters, Christine Tuel of Suffield, Ellen (Jay) Wise of Hartville; grandchildren, Hannah and Tate Wise, Ian and Emma Tuel; brother, Glenn Yerkey of Buckhannon, WV; sister, Delores Siers of Akron.
John spent his life proudly in Suffield where he was known for his devotion to Suzie and his family, love of dogs and Buicks and amazing singing voice. He made an impact on many people through his kindness, loyalty and orneriness. His family was very lucky to have such an amazingly wonderful person in their lives. He will be extremely missed. Donations in his honor may be made to Suffield Twp. Fire Dept. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
