John R. Melvin



John R. Melvin, 83, passed peacefully on November 10, 2008. He was born in Akron and spent his whole life here. He retired from the Norton Co., Stow, as the maintenance supervisor. John served with the US Navy during WWII and was active with his sons in the Boy Scouts of America Troop 317. He saw both John and Keith become Eagle Scouts. John also was an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by his mother Lillie (Ward) Martin; stepfather Harold S. Martin; and father Raymond Melvin. He is survived by his wife Ann L. Melvin; daughter Sharron Rollins (Ronald), of Beaumont, TX; son John H. (Becky Pemberton); daughter Brenda A. McCrea (Delbert Yoder), of Orrville; son Keith E. (Elaine); daughter Dana L. Snuffer (Donald); his favorite aunt Edrie Binegar, of WV; brother Raymond (Laura), of San Antonio, TX; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins. Calling hours will be Thursday, 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. where a funeral service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association 135 Parkinson Avenue Staten Island, New York 10305.
