John Henry Ray "Flick", 84, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord on July 4, 2023. He was born in Rock Run Station, on March 18, 1939 to the late Charles Ray Sr. and Julia Ray (nee Thompson).
Flick moved to the Akron area in his youth and began working at Chrysler as a teenager, retiring after 30 years of service.
In his free time, Flick loved to go fishing. He was a jack of all trades and could fix just about anything. He loved baking sweet potato pies for family and friends. He was also a great boxer in his younger days.
Flick was incredibly generous and would give the shirt off his back if someone needed it. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
In addition to his parents, Flick was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Julia Ray: and stepmother, Inez Ray: brothers and sisters, Milburn Cantrell, Betty Keith, Larry Ray, Clarence Ray, Joycelyn Kelker, Robert Ray,Reginald Ray,Edward Ray, Willie Ray Sr.
He leaves to mourn his passing his children, John H Ray, Donald Ray, Ronald (Sally) Ray, John H (Brenda) Ray, Linda, Julia Antonio Badea, Daisy (Victor) Bayne, Shannon(Ronald) Hamilton, Rosette "aka Doll"(Caprell) Ellison, Melody (Andre) Williams; brothers and sisters, Margie McKinstry, Carol Ray, Charles Ray, Joe Ray, Ella Mae Beverly, Helen Kelker, Patricia (John) Penson, and Dorothy (Nathan) Manson; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A homegoing service will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation for one hour prior at Burning Bush Church at 131 S High St ., Akron, Ohio 44308.
