John Paul Salyer, age 88, of Akron, passed away on Sunday September 8, 2024 at Copley Health Center. He was born on March 24, 1936 in Akron, Ohio to the late Jason and Myrtle (Gilbert) Salyer. He served for 9 years in the United States Marine Corp. stationed in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and traveled to many places. Once honorably discharged he married Bonnie Lynn Chapman on February 26, 1965. He shot rifles for the United States Team in the Olympics. His career included tool and die maker, security , machinist and a news man for radio for the city council and mayors office. He was a member of Later Day Saints Mormon Church.
John is survived by his loving wife Bonnie; son Scott Salyer; daughter Patty (Mark) McIntire; daughter Debbie (Marc) Tomor; grandchildren Nicole, Johnathon, Joe, Josh, Samantha and Marc Jr.; great-granddaughter Ava; sisters Carol McPherson and Janice Litton; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded by his son John Salyer; and siblings Walter Salyer, Pauline Adkins, David Salyer.
His wish was to be cremated and his final resting place is Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
