John J. Scalia
John J. Scalia, 84, of Akron, passed away August 25, 2008 at Altercare of Hartville. He was born July 17, 1924 in Akron, Ohio to the late Cosimo and Mary Scalia. John served in the U. S. Navy during WWII and later worked as an Insurance Agent for Prudential. He was a devoted father and grandfather and in his free time was an avid golfer. John volunteered at Edwin Shaw Challenge Golf Course. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and 2 brothers. He is survived by his life-long companion, Betty J. (Schill) Scalia; daughters, Patty Scalia (Stan) and Pam (Lloyd) McVey; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Sal and Cos Scalia. A memorial gathering will be Thursday from 6 - 7 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Inurnment of cremated remains will take place on Thursday, September 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
