John Skeriotis, 71, of Akron, passed peacefully surrounded by his family on April 30, 2018. He was born in Chios, Greece on February 5, 1947. He served in the Greek military for a brief period of time after graduating high school. He moved to the United States in 1968, and eventually settled in Akron, OH where he resided for 50 years. John worked for Chrysler Automotive for 30 years as a union autoworker, where he retired from in 2007. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and going for walks. John was known for his green thumb and love of gardening. John loved the sun and the ocean water, and would take every opportunity he could to visit.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Kaliope Skeriotis; and his longtime companion, Katherine Skeriotis.
John will be deeply missed by his daughter, Karie (Jon) Castellanos; stepsons, Anthony (Kelly) Sumey and Jason (Christian) Gindlesperger; sisters, Maria (George) Simiakaki and Jeanie (Sokratis) Konstantakis; brothers, Jim (Sharon) Skeriotis, George (Cindy) Skeriotis and Ted (Michelle) Skeriotis; and many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
Friends and family are welcome to Newcomer 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, Thursday May 3, 2018 to visit from 5pm to 8pm. A funeral ceremony will take place on Friday May 4, 2018 at Goodyear Heights Baptist Church 1767 Goodyear Blvd, Akron, 44305 at 11am, with an hour of visitation prior. Interment will take place at Mt. Peace Cemetery in Akron.
