John McWorth Smallwood

John McWorth Smallwood, age 89, of Akron, passed away on December 20, 2024 in the comfort of his home. He was born in Mt. Gilead, Ohio on October 29, 1935 to the late William and Celiabelle (Black) Smallwood. He was a Korean War Navy Veteran, then ran many kitchens in Nevada including Lake Mead Marina. For over 40 years, John shaped many lives coaching baseball and softball. He retired from the Akron Federal Building in 1997. 

John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Shirley; son John (Debbie) Smallwood; brother Jackie Smallwood; grandchildren Jami (Robyn) Smallwood, Josh (Brandi) Smallwood, Kyle (Melody) Smallwood, Hali (David) West; great-granddaughter Jocelynn Smallwood; many bonus children thru Shirley's childcare career; and many other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by 6 brothers Billy, Jimmy, Dannie, Frank E, Edgar, and Claudie.

Visitation will be held Saturday December 28th from 11:00 AM-12:30 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin on Saturday at 12:30 PM with Pastor Billy Kremer officiating. Final resting place is Hillside Memorial Park.
