John T. "Tom" Gaugler, Jr.
John T. "Tom" Gaugler, Jr., 71, passed away on January 6, 2008, after an extended illness. He was born on March 19, 1936 to the late John T. Gaugler, Sr. and Elizabeth Gaugler. John retired from the Carpenters Local #639 after 50 years of service and was a member of the Church of the Master. His greatest joy was caring for and spending time with his precious children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother Jane Ink Gaugler. Survivors include his childhood sweetheart, Donna, to whom he was married for 51 years; daughter Vicki (Joe) Kidder and their children Raechel (Andy) Hill and Paul Kidder; daughter Cynthia (Michael) Proudfoot and their children Brittney (fiance Dan Moore) and Brandon Proudfoot; son Jack (Diane) and their children John Gaugler, IV and Bonnie Gaugler; sisters Doris (Gene) Burdeshaw and Pat (Joe) Reiheld; step-sisters Pat Hinson and Carol Witwer; step-brother Tom (Jackie) Ink; and many dear family members and friends. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Douglas Trochelman and his staff, the nurses of 7th Floor East Oncology at Akron City Hospital, and the nurses of the Acute Palliative Care Unit of Hospice for their wonderful care and support during Tom's illness. Calling hours will be Thursday, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Church of the Master, 800 E. Market St. where a funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Interment at Crown Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Summa, 444 N. Main St. PO Box 2090 Akron, OH 44398-6153. God looked around his garden and He found an empty place. He then looked down upon this earth, and saw your tired face. He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best. He knew that you were suffering. He knew you were in pain. He knew that you would never get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. So He closed your weary eyelids, and whispered, "Peace be Thine." It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn't go alone for part of us went with you the day God called you home.
