Josef Fickert

Josef Fickert passed away on February 6, 2022. He was born on March 14, 1940 in Tomaschantzi, Yugoslavia to the late Peter and Susanna (nee Müller) Fickert. Joe emigrated from Austria with his family on the USS General W.C. Langfitt AP151, arriving in New York, NY on June 18, 1956. Joe lived and worked in the Akron area his entire life as a welder/fabricator. He loved woodworking and being outdoors working in the yard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Maria "Mary" (Stefan) Marz in 2021 and Erna Lawson in 1994, both of Akron. He is survived by his wife Dawne (nee Christenson) Fickert of Hartville; father-in-law Dennis Christenson of Uniontown; brothers Paul (Irene) Fickert and Peter (Gloria) Fickert, both of Akron; daughter Rebecca Barton of Akron; son Michael (Melissa) Fickert of Lake Park, FL; stepsons Jason (Andrea) Walker and Justin Walker: grandchildren Daniel (Caitlin) Dickerson, Erica (David) Conte, Kristen (Michael) Joiner, Michael Fickert; Emma, Ty, Elizabeth, and Chase Walker; great-grandchildren Delilah Dickerson, Isabella and Brianna Joiner. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will take place at a later date at Rose Hill Cemetery (Fairlawn). In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Uniontown Fire Department or Hartville Fire Department.
