Joseph Dexter Vesa

Joseph Dexter Vesa, age 87, of Portage Lakes, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at his home, with family at his side. He was born July 13, 1925 and was a life-long resident of Akron, OH. Joe was retired from self-employment. Interests included listening to music; Karaoke singing; taking road trips, and feeding the homeless neighborhood cats who found their way to his door.
Preceded in death by daughter, Carole Deardorff, on February 28, 2013; parents, Joseph and Ruth (Baker) Vesa of Barberton; brothers, Edward and Arthur. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Colleen (Freeman); daughter, Karen Davis (Kurt Black) ; son, Lindy Joseph (Evelyn) Vesa; grandchildren, Julie Davis of Atlanta, GA, Jennifer Davis, Carla and Christine Vesa, and Jeff Samuels, all of Akron; 4 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, and sister, Lillian Vesa of Barberton.
Cremation will take place. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Tuesday, March 19 at 2 p.m. at Victory Chapel Church, 32 W. Bellisle Dr., Akron, OH 44319, with Pastor Robert Webb officiating. Inurnment will take place at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron, OH at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Summa- St. Thomas Hospital, PO Box 2090, Akron, OH 44309, for whose services the family is very appreciative; or Humane Society of Greater Akron, 7996 Darrow Rd., Twinsburg, OH 44087.
