Joseph Klapka
Joseph Klapka, 86, of Akron, passed away November 16, 2006. He was born on February 22, 1920 in Bradley, Ohio, the first generation of his Czechoslovakian family to be born in the United States. Joseph worked for Warren Tools for 11 years and for Van Huffel Tube Co. for 29 years. He was a member of the Akron Club of the Deaf, the Canton Silent Club, and the Columbus Senior Citizen of Deaf. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening and making home movies. He was an avid sports fan of the Indians and OSU. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Klapka; parents, Frank and Agnes Klapka; sister, Helen Kivlighan; and son-in-law, Dale Efferson. He is survived by his companion, Georgia Abbott of Akron; daughters, Nancy Sue Efferson of Akron and Betty Lou (Teddy) Gee of Mineral Ridge; grandchildren, Beverly (Jeff) Wittmann, Jacqueline Gee, Terence Gee, Christine (Lawrence) Kellar, Carolyn (Paul) Schmitt, David Efferson, Agnes Efferson, and James (Nanette) Efferson; great-grandchildren, Austin Wittmann, Brandon Gee, Christopher Schmitt, Leah Efferson, Aimee Efferson, and Benjamin Kellar; stepdaughters, Priscilla (Robert) Monske and Diana (Dom) Peel; and six stepgrandchildren. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. Interment at Girard Cemetery.
