Joseph Carl Kovach, age 78, passed away on May 30, 2017 in Akron. Joe was born in Akron on August 23, 1938 to Joseph and Rose Kovach of Copley.
Joe was a 1956 graduate of Copley High School and continued on to The University of Akron where he was a very active member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and was selected Tel-Buch King. He graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management. For over five decades he continued to meet for lunch several times a year with a number of his fraternity brothers.
Along with his father, Joe began raising mink, he would later turn that hobby into a sprawling ranch complex in Medina County. He rose to the top of the fur trade by the late 1960's and was known throughout the industry, taking many national and international titles for his outstanding animals. Beyond the farm, Joe worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber and Philpot Rubber as a sales representative and problem solver. He was an outstanding salesman. He took care of his customers just as he took care of everyone around him. Joe was a giver, and never hesitated to lend a hand.
Joe married Donna Jenkins on July 3, 1981 and they made their home in Ellet.
He was a master gardener and his lot was an oasis of flowering plants, vegetables and a small pond of which he was especially proud. He loved his dogs and an occasional cat and was good to everyone and everything around him. Joe loved to fish and he was good at it.
