At the age of 88, Joseph Martin Schaefer went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024 at Chapel Hill Community in Canal Fulton, Ohio after a 3-year stay. He was born in Kent, Ohio on June 19, 1936 to Carl and Katherine (Schrader) Schaefer. He lived most of his life in Randolph where he graduated from Randolph High School in 1955. A favorite memory of his was being a part of a champion football team.
He married his sweetheart, Clara Slaughter, on September 3, 1955. Their life was blessed with four children; Gwen (Bob) Jackson, Joe (Leslie), Ron (Margaret), Dave (Michele). He and Clara were blessed with 12 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild that he greatly enjoyed.
Joe retired from Teledyne Monarch with over 30 years of faithful service. Joe loved gardening and most people knew Joe as the local tomato man from his roadside stand. For many years, during the first week of December, you would find him deer hunting with family and friends. He also spent many hours watching his children and grandchildren play the sports they loved.
Joe was a faithful member of Liberty Bible Church; Nothing made him happier than to see his family at church.
He was preceded in death by his brothers John & Eddie and sisters Theresa Logan and Kathleen Moff.
Besides his wife Clara, and children, Joe is survived by his brother Henry (Kathy), and sisters Millie Fox, Margaret (Vern) Herron and Mary Barton, brother-in-law Chuck Moff and sister-in-law Carol Johnson.
