Joseph James Showalter, "Joe", age 69 of Akron, Ohio, died on October 18, 2022 at his home.
He was born on March 31, 1953 in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the son of the late James and Martha (nee Lowe) Showalter.
Joe was an honorably discharged US Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Showalter worked for the US Postal Service as a clerk for 31 years, retiring in 2002. Joe enjoyed gardening, reading and nature. His greatest enjoyment was being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife, the former Sharol Hogue, whom he married on September 4, 1999; his children, Nicole (Lloyd) McCarty, Constance Bozeman, Jessica (Christopher) Martin and Stacy Konzelman; his grandchildren, Alexandria Putman, Tyler Futo, Jade Showalter, Hope Johnson, Lucas Wagner, Wyatt Kirt, Kyla Archer, Waylon Kirt, Ermerson Martin, Zoey Konzelman and Vivian Porter.
Joe is also survived by two sisters, Christine Miller and Rose Angel.
Other than his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, John Showalter.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM, Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, Ohio, where his brother-in-law, Rev. David Horner, will celebrate Joe's life.
Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Sunday from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Haven of Rest Ministries in Joe's memory.
