Joseph T. Karpel

Joseph T. Karpel, 84, of Akron, passed away May 28, 2008 at the Hospice Care Center. He was born July 26, 1923 in Starford, Pennsylvania to the late Joseph Andrew & Agatha Marie (Pesto) Karpel. Joseph served in the U.S. Army during WWII and later worked for Goodyear Aerospace before retiring. He was a long time member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and a member of the Goodyear Hunting and Fishing Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma L. (Moreland) Karpel; son, Ted Karpel; sisters, Kathryn Rubino, Ann McQuillan and Elizabeth Rogal. He is survived by his daughters, Maureen (Joseph) Marazza and Jolene (Dave) Bergey; son, Tom Karpel; sisters, Agnes McIntyre, Felician Sister Innocence and Mary Rogal; 4 grandchildren; special friend, Audrey Miller. Calling hours will be Friday from 7 - 9 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Funeral Mass on Saturday at St. Matthew Church beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Michael Williamson presiding. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron OH 44333.
