Joseph "Joe" T. Thatcher, of Tallmadge, OH, died February 18, 2022, after a short illness.
Joe was born November 19, 1944, in Delaware, Ohio, to Joseph Thatcher and Maxine (Hall) Thatcher.
He is survived by his "sweetie pie" and Significant Other of 30 years, Juanita L. Weaver, of Tallmadge, OH; daughters, Kristin Harold of Mogadore, OH; Adrianne (Eric) Watson, of Wakefield, KS, and Tobey Thatcher, of Green Valley, AZ. Also surviving are grandchildren, Johnathan (De) Padgett of Greenwood, SC, and Lauren (Nikko) Hansen of Colorado Springs, CO; great-grandchildren Gabriella DiFrangia and John Padgett, as well as an expected greatgrandson in summer, 2022; brothers Michael (Lynn) Thatcher of Blacklick, OH, and David Thatcher of Delaware, OH.
He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved granddaughter, Gwen Thatcher, and son-in-law, Ron Harold.
Joe worked his entire career in the computer/information technology field. In the decades before his retirement in 2016, he served as an independent contractor at many northeast Ohio companies, including Ohio Edison, Parker, and Eaton.
Joe was a weightlifter for health and enjoyment, but his biggest passion was his beloved bluegrass music. He was a founding member of the Backroom Boys Bluegrass Band that performed at many local area venues, playing guitar and occasional mandolin, and singing tenor. He also enjoyed weekly Friday night bluegrass jam sessions at Lafayette United Methodist Church in Medina, OH, where he, Juanita, and Gabriella made many friends. He also hosted an annual Labor Day weekend bluegrass picnic for 20 years, and he and Juanita spent many vacations in their travel trailer attending bluegrass festivals.
A bluegrass-themed Celebration of Life will take place Labor Day weekend, and his family invites you to "save the date," with details to follow later.
His family extends thanks for the many kindnesses and wonderful care he received from the staff at Akron General Medical Center/Cleveland Clinic Emergency Department, 2100, 4100, and 3200 units over the past several weeks.
