Jospeh Harris, Jr.

Joseph Harris, Jr., 85, passed away on July 21, 2011. Joseph attended Philipsburg High School, received his GED while serving in the US Army during WWII, Battle of the Bulge, Acorn Division. He was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Goodyear Heights. Joseph retired from the Ford Motor Company, Walton Hills, in 1985, after 30 years of service. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing cards and working in his yard. Joseph was a walker at Chapel Hill and belonged to the Prime Timers in Tallmadge. Preceded in death by Joseph and Sarah Harris; sister, Aileen Burge; son, Gary Harkless; granddaughter, Jennifer Harris. Survivors include his wonderful wife, LaVerne, of 48 years; sons, Ronald (Debbie) Harkless, Joseph Harris, III, and Larry Harris; daughters, Debbie (Ron) Ashley and Anna Lovich; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brothers, Harold (Roz) Harris and Charles (Donna) Harris; sister, Betsy (Paul) Sutton. A funeral service will be held Monday, 11 a.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Interment to follow at Tallmadge Cemetery. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service.
