Joyce A. (Hicks) Metz, 83, of Akron, passed away on May 31, 2023, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Through it all, Joyce kept her quick wit and sense of humor. Joyce was born November 12, 1939, to Curt and Tillie in Chloe, West Virginia. Joyce graduated from Calhoun County High in '57, and proudly retired from B&W after 30 years of continuous service. Joyce was a member of Reimer Road Baptist and Springfield Baptist Churches.
Joyce is preceded in death by parents Curt and Tillie (Brannon) Hicks, sisters Oma June Tucker and Olive Dale Boggs. Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Richard P. Metz and son Kevin P. Metz, sister Janet Rexroad, nieces and nephews, and many loving friends.
Always fighting for the underdog, Joyce loved animals, children, and those in need. Whether taking in stray cats, loving her poodles, or making sure no squirrel, duck, chipmunk, or bird went hungry, Joyce's loving spirit was ever present. Although Joyce was proud of her immaculate home, meticulously landscaped yard, and her beautiful flower gardens, she never forgot her humble country beginnings.
Memorial contributions may be made to one of Joyce's favorite charities: The Humane Society of Summit County, St. Jude's Hospital, Save the Children, Operation Smile, The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, or United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
At Joyce's request cremation has taken place. Joyce is finally going to make it home. At a date to be determined, burial and prayer service will take place at Minnora Cemetery, Minnora, West Virginia.
