Juanita S. Parker passed away on July 6, 2023 at the age of 90. She was born on March 23, 1933 to Paul and Arlene Strotman in Shippenville, PA. Juanita grew up in Bradford, PA and graduated from Bradford High School. She went to Eastern Nazarene College in Boston, MA, majoring in elementary education and a minor in music and psychology. She met her future husband, Joseph Warren Parker, Jr., a junior, majoring in music and in training for a naval officer. Joe received his degree and commission in the Navy in 1953. He went to Korea for two years. When Joe came back they were married June 25, 1955 in Bradford, PA in the Nazarene Church. Joe's dad, Rev. Joseph W. Parker Sr., assisted in the ceremony. They moved to Akron, OH where Juanita got a teaching job at Henry School for ten years. She resigned to become a happy mother to son, Randy Joe Parker. His musical talent showed up very early and that was his life. He got a scholarship to Kent State. He received the outstanding musician award and graduated in 1981. He went to Hollywood and saw his dreams come true, but it didn't last long. Randy got a virus that attacked his liver and he passed away September 11, 2006.
Joe retired as a full Captain after 30 years. The Navy helped them to travel and to have a wonderful life. Juanita collected over 700 thimbles from every place they visited. This ties into her love of needlework. She likes to crewel embroidery, needlepoint, knit, crochet and design and make her own clothes. Juanita held offices in Akron Needlework Guild, Magnetic Needles, and Stan Hywet Needlework Guild.
Juanita has been a member of the Federation of Women's Club for over 30 years, holding many jobs and also past president of the Alumni Group of the Federation. Her favorite jobs were being on the Scholarship Committee and Music Scholarship Chairman. She is delighted to help young people to realize their dreams.
Left to cherish her memory is her sister-in-law, Janet Mardjanov; beloved friend, Patricia Prather; as well as many other relatives and friends.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, July 17, 2023 at Greenlawn Memorial Park (2580 Romig Road, Akron, OH 44320).
