The Reverend Judith Barbara Carter Schaefer was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on June 12, 2024, after a valiant 13-month struggle with cancer. Judy was born in Akron, Ohio on February 3, 1940, to the late Floyd and Helen Carter and resided in the area her entire life. She was a graduate of Akron Ellet High School and Kent State University where she earned a degree in social work.
While in her 20’s, Judy became a born-again Christian, left her job and devoted the remainder of her life to serving people and the Lord. She became a minister and a missionary. Judy established her own ministry (Voice of Faith Outreach) and spent over 50 years working to improve the lives of people, primarily in Haiti where she built two churches and helped care for orphans.
Judy married while in her 50’s after she met the love of her life, Paul Robert Schaefer. Judy and Paul were married on June 22, 1991, and remained happily married until Paul’s passing in 2018.
In addition to Paul and her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her niece, Alicia Carter, her nephew, Douglas Knoll, and the many cats that she loved and cared for over the years. She is survived by her brother; David (Nancy) Carter; nieces Barbie Knoll (Jay) and Madison Carter; nephews Dan (Laura) Carter, Andrew Carter, Grayson Carter, and David Lee Carter; special friends Gerry Mills, Ruth Barzachinni, Robin Gollner and Judy Holleran; and many cousins and dear friends.
With a special bit of gratitude to Barbie Knoll, Marty Bramlett and Andrew Carter for their commitment to help Judy live comfortably in her home, which was her wish.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, from 10:30 AM until the time of her funeral service at 12:30 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio 44305). Burial will take place at Hillside Memorial Park immediately following the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made, in memory of Judy, to the charity of your choice.
Judy's service will be livestreamed at the scheduled service time.

2 Timothy 4:7-8
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.”
