Karole Lee Shaffer
Karole Shaffer, beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend has been reunited with her husband, Clifton Shaffer, and parents Claude and Kathryn Shank. Her graceful struggle against cancer complete, she has surpassed all challenges, going home to be with the Lord.
A native of Akron, Karole was born June 13, 1941. She attended East High School and worked at Evans Savings, rising to bank officer with Centran Bank - the first female bank officer in the area, breaking new ground for women in an industry dominated by men. While working at the bank, she met Clifton Shaffer, the man who would become her partner in life. She and husband Cliff shared many happy years together before Cliff succumbed to Parkinson's disease. In later years, Karole enjoyed her position with Peter Hart Research, gathering public opinion data from across the United States. She was held in high regard by her peers, and formed many deep and cherished friendships. Beyond work, the time spent with her family was Karole's greatest joy. She was a loyal and constant friend, a caring mother, a devoted sister and a proud grandparent.
Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few short months ago, Karole waged her battle with cancer, never sacrificing her dignity, nor succumbing to fear. Her courage and faith became a testament for those closest to her. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family.
Karole is survived by son, Timothy Shank and his wife Karen; grandchildren: Christopher and Marin; brother, Terry Shank and his wife, Gloria and son, Derek; sister, Cathy Smathers and her husband, Don and their children: Jeff, Jason and wife, Krystle, Jennifer and husband, Jon, Jeff Jr. and Aeriel; sister, Joyce Hundley and her children: Ron, Jamie, Robin, and Ryan and husband, Tony.
We will miss you. Your voice over the phone, your smile while sharing presents around the Christmas tree, and the adventures we shared when vacationing in Florida and Tennessee. Most of all, we will miss you throughout the day - the shopping, laughing, sharing, and loving that happens when one is part of a family. You will always be in our hearts. We pray those who loved her take comfort in His promise, for we will be reunited once again through our Lord, Jesus Christ. May you find solace and rest in His name.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 15, 2015 from 2-4 followed by a 4:00 p.m. memorial service at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
