Katherine Barbara (Fogler) Schveibinz
Katherine "Kay" Schveibinz passed away in her sleep after a long and family–devoted life in Akron.
Kay grew up just west of downtown to German-speaking immigrant parents, attended St. Bernard's Catholic School and graduated from Akron West High School. She learned secretarial science and worked for the Akron Public Schools as a school secretary for several years before family duties took priority. Kay with her husband John of 59 years lived on Akron's North Hill where they raised their three children. She retired to Stow Glen Health Care Center in 2005. Kay was a devoted parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church and long time member of the German-American Club. Decades long family friendships were carefully nurtured with card club get togethers and group vacations. She was an excellent cook, creative seamstress, a wonderful decorator, and a terrific dancer. But most of all, Kay was a kind, caring and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was her duty, her passion, her joy and her wealth.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, John; and parents, Anton and Barbara Fogler.
She is survived by her children, Rita Muckensturm, Elaine (Steve) Forbes and John (Marcy) Schveibinz; grandchildren, Shelly Blackerby, Matthew Callahan, Michael Muckensturm, Brian Muckensturm, Peter Forbes, Carly Schveibinz, Elizabeth Forbes and Luke Schveibinz; great-grandchildren, Nick, Ryan, and Andrew Blackerby; dear friend of the family, Rene Muckensturm; brother, George Fogler; and sister, Helen Androla.
Our family will be eternally grateful to the many gentle and loving individuals of Stow Glen into whose care "Kay-Kay" was entrusted more than 7 years ago. Under their watchful gaze she blossomed as a winter rose forming lasting and loving new bonds of friendship throughout her nursing home community. God bless them all! An additional extension of immense gratitude from her family goes to Hospice of Summa. Their support and added care enhanced her last days immeasurably with equal focus on both her physical and spiritual well-being.
Calling hours will be held Friday, May 4, from 6 to 8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a prayer service will be held Saturday, May 5, at 12:15 pm followed by a funeral mass at St. Bernard-St. Mary Catholic Church of Akron at 1 pm; interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
