Katie Bayer, 88, passed away on September 3, 2011 after a long illness. She was born to the late Stephen and Mary Kiltau, and lived her life in Akron. Kate and John married on July 7, 1943 and shared over 62 years before his death. In 1982, she retired from General Tire and began volunteering for many organizations. Her life was filled with family, friends, traveling, music, dancing and helping others. She was preceded in death by her son, Gregory; sister, Mary; and brothers, Steve and Andrew. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Gingras; grandchildren, Michelle (Steve) Carey, and Jason (Dana) Maidenberg; and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Sydney, and Isabella. A visitation will be held Saturday, September 10, from 1 to 3pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a service will follow at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Summa and Kent Ridge Assisted Living.
