Larry Dale Miller, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 19, 2021 after a long struggle with oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy (OPMD), which is a rare genetic condition. It causes weakness in the muscles around the upper eyelids and part of the throat called the pharynx. The condition affects vision and causes problems swallowing, talking and attacks the major muscle groups.
Larry was born on March 1, 1939 in Barberton, Ohio and shortly after his family moved to Long Beach, California. He is a graduate of Cal Poly High School, class of 1956. He served in the US Navy from 1956 -1958, stationed in San Francisco onboard the USS Hancock CVA-19 as a Ship's Store Keeper. Larry worked for the House of LaRose brewery distributor as a helper and driver for 30 years. He was a member of the Teamsters local #348 for 35 years.
Preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Irene (Snyder) Miller, and son, Mark Miller. Larry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy (Chase) Miller of Uniontown, Ohio, sons, David (Anna) Miller of Akron, Ohio, Todd (Marilyn) Miller of Fullerton, CA, Lawrence (Lisa) Krieger of Barberton, Ohio, Kevin Krieger of Barberton, Ohio, and Timothy (Tina) Miller of New Franklin, Ohio, daughters, Teresa (Marvin) Greer of Akron, Ohio, Debra (Chip) Westfall of Uniontown, Ohio, Denise (Terry) Lambert of Canton, Ohio; 28 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda (John) Reynolds of Norwalk, CA, and Lana (Tim) Horgan of Dana Point, CA; several brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law along with many other relatives and friends.
Larry's body will have already been cremated, however, his memorial ceremony will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at Noon at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, with Pastor Bob Combs officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial ceremony service.
