Larry Townsend, 70, passed away on May 21, 2022 from Alzheimer's dementia. He was born in Wadsworth, grew up in Doylestown and attended Doylestown High School. He graduated from the University of Akron with a degree in Alcohol and Drug counseling. He had 36 years sobriety and dedicated over 35 years to the alcohol and drug field in Summit, Stark, Tuscarawas, and Carroll counties helping hundreds of clients. He loved hunting with his nephew, Michael and fishing with his nephew, Rick and friend, Arnold. He loved gambling and poker and visited Las Vegas many times. He also visited Alaska, Utah, the Grand Canyon, the Bahamas, Sedona and Maine.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Myles, and his mother, Alice; daughter, Jennifer, and his brothers, "Bones" and Bobby. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Debbie; his brother, Bill, sisters Lisa and Beth, grandson Christopher, stepmother Linda and mother-in-law, Lilli Williams. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Connie and brother-in-law Bert, many nieces and nephews and many friends, Ted, Arnold, Steve Pam, Kimberly and Jamie and the "crew". Many thanks to Rose Lane - 300 wing - for their care and kindness and Larry is certainly now dancing to "Rocky Top".
Family and friends are invited to visit Thursday, May 26, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. Those who wish, may make memorial donations in Larry's name to The Alzheimer's Association or First United Methodist Church, 263 E. Mill St., Akron, OH 44308.
