Laura A. Killian

February 23, 1957 — August 8, 2021

On Sunday, August 8, 2021, Laura Killian (aka Honey, aka Lolo) - a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend - passed away at the age of 64 after a six year battle with breast cancer.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Margaret (nee Hinkhouse) Killian; her sister, Cathy Killian Levine; and her niece, Rachel Levine. She is survived by her wife of 22 years, Janet Black; daughters, Ashley Farrish and Lashara Black; granddaughter, Zeniyah G.; sister, Debbie Killian Lee (Daniel Cadogan); brother, Doug Killian (Jeanne Mowry); nieces, Katie Lee, Brianna Lee Pollock, Kala Lee, Sierra Killian, and Kiana Killian; and a host of extended family and friends.
Laura was born on February 23, 1957 in Sturgis, Michigan; her family moved to Muscatine, Iowa, where she and her siblings grew up. Laura came to Ohio when she accepted a position at the College of Wooster. A while later, deciding to change careers, she received her law degree from the University of Akron School of Law. Laura was employed by the City of Akron for nearly 30 years. During her tenure, she served as a legislative attorney, a prosecutor, a judicial associate, and a magistrate. She retired at the end of 2019.
Laura had a passion for giving back to her community. As a member of Emmanuel Fellowship Church, she taught Sunday School, served as a trustee, and was always active in outreach ministry. As a Girl Scout leader, she guided girls with much love, fun, and good humor. As an involved grandparent with King School PTA, she assisted with the Holiday Shoppe and taught a CSI class for Science Olympiad. Laura helped people in numerous other ways through her legal expertise and anonymous donations of groceries or a home-cooked meal.
Known for her sharp wit, keen mind, fierce love and loyalty, Laura was deeply loved and well respected by many, many people. However, she was not one to draw much attention to herself, so per her request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please honor Laura's memory and her servant heart with a donation to the Emmanuel Fellowship Church Ministry Fund.
