Lawrence M. Knafel, Jr.
Lawrence M. Knafel, Jr., 56, went home to be with the Lord on February 22, 2007, after a courageous 5 year battle with cancer. He retired from the city of Akron in 1997. He was a member of St. Matthew Parish where he was an usher since 1984. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #4664 where he enjoyed spending time with his brother Knights. Preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Wanda; and brother Ronnie. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 34 years, Grace (McDonald); sons Ronald (girlfriend Laura), Ryan; daughter Kelli (Rich) Dambra; granddaughter and joy of his life Olivia Dambra; special sister Cookie (Ken) Stewart; brothers Bernie (Barb), Jerry; sister Carol (Steve) Klein; brothers-in-law Walt (CeCe) McDonald and Larry (Judy) McDonald; special nieces Shelley (Jeremy) Tarle and Jenny Stewart; his girls Mackenzie, Camryn, and Rylie Tarle; special friends Chuck and Dee Keener, Candy Watson, Linda Dambra; and many other friends. He will be greatly missed by everyone. We would like to thank Dr. John Petrus, the nurses at AGMC Cancer Treatment, and the Hospice Care Center, especially his Hospice nurse Katie. Calling hours will be Sunday, 2-5 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Funeral mass Monday, 10 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Prayers at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Rd. Akron, OH 44333.
