Lawrence E. Madonio
Our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Lawrence E. Madonio, left this earth after a long and courageous fight on Sunday, July 27, 2008, and made his way to be with God in Heaven. He was born May 30, 1931 to the late Edward and Mary Stella in Dunlo, Pennsylvania. He was the second of six children. He moved to Ravenna, Ohio in 1942 and graduated from Ravenna High School in 1949. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict where he delivered mail to his fellow soldiers. On June 26, 1954, he married Barbara E. Smith, to whom he remained faithful and ever loving to his last day. They moved to Akron in 1957. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son Michael (Diana); daughter Sue (Michael) Denholm; granddaughters Stephanie Sculley, Kristin (Josh) Williams, and Rachael Denholm; grandsons Joseph Madonio and Matthew Denholm; and great-grandchildren Keith and Kyle Sculley, Hailie Shanks, and Anthony Madonio. His loss is also deeply felt by his sisters Lillian (Bill) Woolf and Lucy (Bruce) Ribelin; and his brothers Joe (Donna) and Chas (Nancy). Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his oldest brother Samuel (Lois) in 1996. He also leaves many other family members and friends. Larry retired from R.F. Cook Manufacturing in 1996 where he worked as a tool and die maker for 25 years, then as the company's purchasing agent for 15 years. Larry was a respected family man, known for his many talents. His family was everything to him and he enjoyed their company on holidays. He liked to garden, he enjoyed cooking (nut bread and pie crust were his specialties), he refinished furniture, and was the neighborhood bicycle repair man. He was known as a "Jack of all trades". Larry enjoyed travels to places like New York, Alaska, Myrtle Beach, and Arizona. He was a member of St. Matthew Parish. Calling hours will be Thursday, 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Prayers will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment at St. Mary Cemetery in Ravenna. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
