Lawrence Mitchell Moore, Sr.

Lawrence Mitchell Moore, Sr., 74, of Akron, joined the Lord on July 1, 2017. Larry was born in Akron, Ohio on January 8, 1943 to the late Alvie and Violet Garrett Moore. Larry was a veteran of the U.S. Army and he retired as a Lieutenant with the Akron Fire Department with 28 years of service. He was a selfless and dedicated firefighter; a loving husband and father, and a generous and kind friend who would do everything he could to help others.

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Eilene Harkless Moore; children, Lawrence (Karen) Moore, Jr., Michelle Bailes and Tracy Moore; grandchildren, Devin, Matthew and Joseph Moore, Niccole Baum, Rebecca and Brianna Bailes, and Kevin and Kyle Setree; siblings, Jeanne Harkless and Bill (Donna) Garrett, and many extended family members and friends.

The family wishes to thank Akron Fire Department, especially Tim Kling, for the love, support and friendship they showed him over the years. The family also thanks the staff at Hospice of Summa for their exceptional care, and to Larry's friends at Reeves Auto Repair for their friendship over the years.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 5-8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron. Feel free to wear your favorite flannel shirt in his honor. A Celebration of Life service for this hero will be announced at a later date, where Last Alarm services will be rendered.
