Lawrence A. "Larry" Sycks, 76, passed away July 26, 2023 at Aultman Compassionate Care Center in Canton. He was born in Canton, Ohio on March 7, 1947 to the late Stanley and Lydia (Weiss) Sycks. Larry was a 1965 graduate of Field High School and served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a retired postal worker from the Medina Post Office.
Larry recently resided at the Apostolic Christian Home in Rittman, Ohio, where he was popular with many of the staff, residents and his aides, Pam, Jennifer, Charlotte and Darlene. Although Darlene came aboard at the end of his life, her caring compassion and respectfulness did not go unnoticed. The family will be eternally grateful for all the hours, days and weeks they devoted their full attention to his health, happiness and well being.
He loved to fish, rarely successful at it, but didn't let it deter him. Larry loved watching sports; baseball, basketball and of course the Cleveland Browns, although at times he wouldn't admit to the latter. He loved all animals, never met a kid he didn't like, selflessly gave of his time and attention as the involved uncle he was. Larry was a car enthusiast and particularly liked classic Corvettes. He appreciated listening to music; oldies, folk, classic rock and even country that spanned the decades. He made many trips to the place of his fondest memories while growing up, specifically the farm in Athens, Ohio, where the family spent many summers visiting grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Larry longed for and cherished all the good times.
Larry will be sadly missed by siblings, Roy, Dan, Jane Rutan; niece, Lori (Bryan) Hippich; nephews, Gary (Sandra) Sycks, Scott (Chris) Rutan, Larry Rutan; great nieces, Emily, Katelyn, Lydia, Lucy; great nephew, Alex.
A special and heartfelt thank you to Gary and Sandra for all the tasks they handled on Larry's behalf, too numerous to mention.
Per Larry's wishes, there will be no formal services. Those who wish may make memorial donations in Larry's name to Paralyzed Veterans of America, Wounded Warriors or the D.A.V.
